LITEXPO Development and Modernisation Programme

The biggest exhibition centre in Lithuania – LITEXPO has set its targets not only to sustain the leader's position in exhibition industry in the Baltic States, but also to become the main centre in the region for hosting international conferences, congresses and meetings.

In order to achieve these ambitions targets, LITEXPO has planned its development and modernisation programme, which would be partly financed from the EU Structural Funds and co-financing funds.

Upon Lithuania’s accession to the European Union, even vaster possibilities opened for business development. Accession to the EU opened huge competitive Western markets to the Baltic enterprises. EU also means stronger competition on the regional markets. Beside, it is favourable time now for turning back to the Eastern markets which have giant potential.

New possibilities set new requirements. LITEXPO is observing the growing trends of significantly bigger attention shown by foreign companies to the exhibitions held here, as well as ever-increasing demand for organising international congresses, conferences, seminars and other events either together with the exhibitions or individually. Therefore, the launched development and modernisation of LITEXPO is a timely response to new changes on the exhibition and event business market.

The first stage of LITEXPO development and modernisation started on the 1st of September 2004 and lasted until the 31st of August 2006. It included construction of a new multifunctional exhibition, congress and conference pavilion, its connection with the fourth exhibition pavilion, arrangement of the infrastructure and car parking lots, installation of visitor entrance control system. The value of the first stage was LTL 27-28 million, incl. VAT, including 8 million financed from the European Union Structural Funds and co-financing funds. The remaining amount was assigned by LITEXPO.

The second stage of LITEXPO development and modernisation was launched in 2008 and will finish in the 1st half of 2010. Upon completion of this stage, LITEXPO will have a modern and functional conference centre constructed with its separate infrastructure and a possibility to operate independently. The new conference centre will 11 modernised and newly installed halls fitted with the state-of-the-art conference equipment, a new restaurant and terrace cafe, separate cloakrooms, info centre, rest zones.

The Project implementation is co-financed by EU Structural Funds under the Cohesion Promotion Action Programme, Priority I Local and Urban Development, Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Nature and Adaptation for Tourism Development, Measure Development of Variety of Tourism Services / Products and Quality Improvement of Touris-K.m Services, code VP3-1.3-ŪM-06.

The third development stage will be designated for the development of multifunctionality (versatility) of the LITEXPO Centre – adaptation thereof for organising events of state importance, cultural and entertainment events as well as fairs. In this stage, it is intended to adapt the LITEXPO Centre to the ESBO Conference and events related to the Lithuanian presidency of the European Union in 2013 – it is planned to reconstruct the Central LITEXPO Exhibition Palace and the 4th Exhibition Pavilion. After the reconstruction thereof, the purpose of these buildings would be multifunctional (versatile) and suitable for organising events of state importance, cultural and entertainment events as well as fairs. It is also planned to invest in LITEXPO’s exhibition and event installation facilities by way of adapting it for installation of events of state importance. It is intended to acquire new prefabricated constructions for the erection of conference spaces, it is planned to renew electrical and lighting systems, telecommunications equipment, to introduce and implement innovative information-technology solutions.

When this development and modernisation project is completed, LITEXPO will become not only the absolute exhibition-organisation leader in the Baltic Region, but also a modern and multifunctional (versatile) centre where events of diverse character – both international events of state importance as well as business-, cultural- and entertainment events – can be held. Securing the leader’s positions, will be facilitated not only by enlarged well-equipped exposition spaces and modern conference halls, but also by well-ordered infrastructure, convenient access road, and unique landscape.
