Kaišiadorys region

At the Kaišiadorys Region stand, you will have the chance to meet representatives from the Tourism Information Center and the Lithuanian Ethnography Museum. In 2026, the people of Kaišiadorys invite you to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Kaišiadorys Diocese. On this occasion, visit the Kaišiadorys Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Christ, where Blessed Teofilius Matulionis rests, along with the first Bishop of Kaišiadorys, Juozapas Kukta, and other notable figures.

On the first weekend of June, the Kaišiadorys City Festival will surprise visitors with a rich artistic and entertainment program, while the Tourism Center will invite you to a theatrical tour of Kaišiadorys, “The Hand, the Conspiracy, and Other City Stories.” Live characters will transport you to the spaces and intriguing events of the past.

In 2026, the Lithuanian Ethnography Museum will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its founding! Visitors are welcomed to major traditional events such as Shrovetide, Easter, Midsummer (Joninės), Assumption Day (Žolinė), and the Advent Town, all of which continue to attract an increasing number of guests. Those interested in customs and traditions can choose from a wide range of educational activities — from bread baking to traditional pre-wedding workshops.

The museum has opened a new interactive exhibition, “The Universal Interwar Craftsman’s Workshop,” where visitors can sit in a barber’s chair, see a watchmaker’s room, try letter-writing activities, or use an interactive camera in the photo studio. At the Lithuanian Ethnography Museum, traditions and crafts come to life for every visitor.

In one of the most scenic natural areas of the region — Mergakalnis Hill — mythical creatures have built their homes on a steep cliff. Visit the Barstukai Trail, solve forest puzzles, and perhaps you will find the Barstukai treasure!

Local flavors can be experienced through food workshops featuring Kaišiadorys–style kakorai, Žasliai porridge, šimtalapis pastry, spit cake (šakotis) baked over an open fire, Liutonys cheeses, and oven-baked snails. For a delicious souvenir, you can take home birch sap syrup, “Kaišiadorys Kisses,” lovingly made local sweets, and products from ecological farms.

During a longer stay, you can choose to spend the night not only in a hotel or countryside homestead, but also in a yurt, a glamping site among deer, a treehouse, or a uniquely designed structure featuring surprising engineering solutions — reached by a meadow path.

The most interesting hiking routes will take you around forest lakes, along unique small-town streets, steep cliffs, and field trails accompanied by birdsong. Cyclists and road travelers can choose from 18 “menu” options composed of 200 different “ingredients.” The Tourism Center and local guides will gladly help you choose the best routes and stops.

Don’t forget to include other events in your Kaišiadorys travel calendar. In spring, experience the nighttime nature hike “Walpurgis Night” and bird-watching festivities; in summer — the aromatic Doughnut Festival in Žasliai, “Sounds of Mergakalnis” in Dovainonys, the Summer Festival in Žiežmariai; in autumn — the water–themed concert-performance “In the Flow” in Rumšiškės, the Traditional Crafts and Folklore Festival in Žasliai, Baltic Unity Day near the Maisiejūnai Mound, the “Theater Festival” by Lake Kalviai, bog hikes, and numerous sports and music events.
